The Kipp School - Katy Gill Hays, Assistant Superintendent Institutional Advancement
KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, was founded in Houston in 1994. Since that time, more than 66 KIPP schools have opened in 19 states and the District of Columbia. KIPP Houston's mission is to prepare underserved students with the academic skills, intellectual habits, and qualities of character necessary to succeed at all levels of pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, college, and the competitive world beyond.
Ms. Hays joined KIPP Houston in September 2004 to lead a three-year $19 million Capital Campaign. Since that time, KIPP has launched a major expansion initiative with a total philanthropic goal of $130 million. Ms. Hays and her team are active participants in the fundraising component of the plan. In addition, she directs annual fundraising efforts to raise approximately $4-5 million annually for program support.
Previously, Ms. Hays was Chief Development Officer of Texas Children’s Hospital, the largest freestanding pediatric hospital in the United States where she worked for more than 13 years. She led a comprehensive fundraising program, including Annual Giving/Events, Individual/Planned Giving, and Foundation teams. In September 2002, the hospital celebrated the completion of the $80 million Building for Children campaign that raised funds for a $345 million expansion project. During the 3 ½ years of the campaign, an additional $24.9 million was raised for program support.
Ms. Hays also held leadership positions in development at The Houston Symphony and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Other experience includes The University of Houston System, the Houston Area Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and as an independent consultant.
Ms. Hays is a graduate of Louisiana State University with a BA in Broadcast Journalism.
